Quick, someone bring tortilla chips!

A semi trailer carrying more than 39,000 pounds of shredded cheese caught fire Thursday afternoon, blocking both eastbound lanes of traffic on Interstate 10 for more than five hours one mile east of the Florida state line.

The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. when the brakes of the truck caught fire, igniting the trailer and its contents, Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Josh Tucker said.

The driver of the vehicle, whose identity was not available, was not injured. The driver was able to disconnect the cab from the trailer and escape unharmed, the FHP said.

Officials were removing the cheese from the interstate with a front-end loader.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
