Reverend Al is back (shocking!)

Reverend Al Sharpton is using his Sunday appearance at The First A.M.E. Church in South Los Angeles to call for a U.S. Postage stamp honoring Michael Jackson, as well as national day of mourning.

Sharpton faces a steep challenge in getting the stamp approved, as commemorative stamps cannot even be considered until 5 years after the subject's death, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

The only exception to the rule is for deceased U.S. Presidents, who have traditionally been honored with a stamp released on their birthdays, following date of death.

Releasing a commemorative stamp could be a financial boon for the Postal Service as Michael Jackson memorabilia has reportedly been selling in high volumes and in some cases for significantly higher prices after the music icon's passing.

The 1993 commemorative stamp for Elvis Presley became the best-selling U.S. stamp to date with 124.1 million stamps sold, according to figures released by the USPS. Many of the units sold were reportedly kept as souvenirs, rather than used as postage.

R.I.P. Steve McNair

Shot twice in the head and two more times in the chest, former NFL quarterback Steve McNair was the victim of a homicide, police declared Sunday. But authorities wouldn't say it was a murder-suicide — even with his 20-year-old girlfriend dead at his feet from a single bullet.

McNair had been dating Saleh Kazemi for several months, and Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron said Sunday that a semiautomatic pistol was found under her body. She was shot in the head.

McNair, who was married with four sons, had a permit to carry a handgun in Tennessee, and he was arrested once before with a 9mm weapon although charges in the case were dropped. Police said they had not yet determined who owned the gun found at the scene.

Italian Olympic swimmer Flavia Zoccari was forced to sit out a championship race at the Mediterranean Games yesterday after her bathing costume burst open in a very unfortunate place.

Flavia, 22, was wearing the controversial £318 top-of-the-line Jaked J01 swimsuit when disaster struck at the Games in Pescara, Italy.

Jaked boasts that the full-body swimsuit - complete with back hinge - is 'more than skin'.

However the aerodynamic costume has been the subject of controversy after it was banned by FINA (the International Swimming Federation) earlier this year because it gave swimmers wearing it an unfair advantage. FINA lifted the ban on the swimsuit a month later, in June of this year, after Jaked, which sponsors the Italian national swim team, protested the ban.

BACON DRESS

“I chose salami because it’s thin, keeps in one piece, and is quite cheap, and bacon because it looks very, um, meaty. I considered somehow vacuum-sealing sheets of meat with those sealers they have on the markets now, but the machines were too expensive for a one-time-only disposeable dress. I ended up using the K.I.S.S. method of construction, which involved a basic shift dress out of thick cotton. I layed the meat on top, then put clear vinyl over it and sewed tracks with clear thread. I used a wide stitch length to avoid perforating the meat to the point it might just… uh, slide down the bottom of the dress. I also blotted it all before sewing to get rid of as much grease as possible to avoid clouding the vinyl. Lastly, I made sure to bind the bottom of the dress with a strip of clear vinyl to catch drips. (I love talking about this; it’s so disgusting.) The whole project took about 6 hours, and I kept it refrigerated until the party. Good times.”

What ever happened to Bubbles?

Many have been asking - where is Michael Jackson's beloved chimp Bubbles? Turns out he's in Wauchula at a place called "The Center for Great Apes."

The center's website explains, "Bubbles was born in a biomedical laboratory, but taken from his mother and sold to a Hollywood trainer while still an infant. He was purchased for Michael Jackson and soon gained fame as Jackson's pet chimpanzee. "

Patti Ragan, Director of the Center for Great Apes, issued the following statement in response to the numerous inquiries regarding Bubbles:

Bubbles, the chimpanzee formerly owned by Michael Jackson, has been cared for by the Center for Great Apes (CGA), a sanctuary for chimpanzees and orangutans in need of lifetime care, since 2005.

When Bubbles became too large to be handled by Jackson, he lived his earlier years at the California compound of Bob Dunn, Michael Jackson's animal trainer.

Workers were a little red-faced after painters misspelled the word "school" on the ground in front of Goulds Elementary in Miami-Dade County, Fla. Even young students pointed out that "scohol" doesn't make any sense.

"They should go back to school," said student Keon Brooks.

"They really need the education because if they can't get to spelling school right, what you think it's going to benefit for the kids when they're laying all these teachers off?" said parent Quantisha Henley.

"They're trying to cut down on education but they need more," said another parent.

This error coming on the heels of a recent announcement that nearly 400 teachers will be getting pink slips. School board officials hope to give many of them their jobs back once federal stimulus money becomes available.

A spokesman for Miami-Dade Public Works said the painters used semi-permanent paint, and ended up repairing the mistake last week.
